Woodworking for Beginners: Design Your Own Cutting Board

  • The Bodgery 4444 Robertson Road Madison, WI, 53714 United States (map)

Kick off our beautiful Wisconsin autumn by designing your own cutting board! Choose to make a fun pumpkin shape or stick with a traditional rectangle. Use it to serve your friends on a chilly night around the campfire or to prepare those upcoming holiday meals!

In this introductory class, you will learn to design and create your own cutting board! We will have pre-cut pieces of various sizes in woods commonly found in cutting boards, such as walnut, cherry, and maple. Arrange the board however you like, making an intricate pattern or keeping it sporadic! Boards can be made up to 12" x 14" in size.

After arranging your pieces, you will learn proper glue-up and clamping techniques. Once dry, we will square, plane, sand, and apply a food-safe finish to the boards. Participants will learn about machine safety and use of the jointer, miter saw, table saw, planer, various sanders, and food-safe finishes. This is the perfect class for beginners!

Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dusty and secure back long hair. Safety glasses and other supplies will be provided. Introductory videos will be emailed out one week prior to class.

There is a $60 fee for the class that includes the wood, use of tools, sandpaper, and other supplies. Registration is required, as spots are limited to 8 per class for the best learning experience.
