Hello!
My name is Katie Daniel.
I make things out of wood, and then attempt to prevent my two bunnies from chewing on them.
I grew up surrounded by tools. My father was a general contractor and owned his own business for many years. I helped with various roles within the business and quickly became comfortable finding my way around the lumberyard.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin. Shortly after graduation, I found myself frequenting a makerspace called the Bodgery daily. I eventually became captain of the wood shop and taught monthly classes there. I also designed a series of classes titled Women in Woodworking, creating a safe and comfortable space for women-only groups to explore the craft of woodworking.
My interests now steer more heavily toward crafting fine furniture, intricate solid wood joinery, and hand tool woodworking. That being said, I will always love my machinery. I now live in Portland, ME and work at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, Inc. I demonstrate proper use of hand tools, travel around the country for Hand Tool Events, assist in teaching weekend-long classes, and create content for digital media channels. I also offer freelance services in branding and online marketing, particularly for makers and craftspeople. I have a fully-outfitted shop at home, which continues to improve and evolve constantly. Most importantly, it allows me to continue to pursue my primarily love: building furniture.
